Bythos Project Uses Jellyfish Extract for Pharmaceutical Purposes and More

Bythos Extended project focused on reducing jellyfish population by grinding them into an extract rich in protein and collagen using a technique for discarded fish remains. The extract has various potential applications, including pig feed and pharmaceutical additives for inflammation. The project, involving Italy and Malta, utilizes the Fish Residue Automated Processing (FRAP) Unit, a mobile lab previously located on the Island of Lipari to demonstrate a pilot fish waste collection system and pre-treatment process, and later moved to Malta to transform jellyfish into a protein and collagen-rich extract, contributing to resourceful use of its abundant population.
